Pandelela Rinong (Diver)






About

Pandalela was qualified as the first Malaysian athlete for the upcoming 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics in Brazil due to her outstanding performance to finish on the podium in an individual event in the World Aquatics Championships as she manage to grab a bronze medal in the women’s 10m platform individual discipline that was held in Kazan, Russia. Yet, even with her growing popularity as the poster child of Malaysian sports, Pandelela Rinong has managed to keep her feet firmly planted on the ground. Her success in sports of diving will inspire many future Malaysian generation out there.

Early Life

Born in March 2, 1993 in Kampung Jugan, Gau, Sarawak is the Malaysia female divers. Her brother also involving in diving also. She was trained at Bukit Jalil Sports School and was a state diver by age seven. Her talent been observed and later she was recruited by a coaches a year later to pursue diving more seriously.

Later on, Pandelela manage to join a spot of national team when her technique for diving is very skillful that caught the eye of sports scouts after winning a host competition for her home state of Sarawak. It was a huge honor for a 14 year old girl to enter the national team. However, it was a bittersweat moment for Pandelela as she need to be away from her family. Pandelela determination was strong a she put many hours of practice in the pool to perfect her technique. Most kid in that age probaly will never had that kind of spirit like Pandelela have.

Achievement


FINA Diving World Cup in Beijing February 2008 is Pandelela first international event where she finished in the sixth place in the 10-meter platform event. Due to that she manage to earn her a place in the 2008 summer Olympic. Pandelela diving career keep getting better when she had partnered with a ten-year veteran Leong Mun Yee at the world championship in Rome 2009. They manage to bring bronze medal in the 10-meter platform (synchronized) event. A year later, in August at the Youth Olympic in Singapore she had won two silver medals in the 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platforms events.



Two months later, at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, Pandelela won the gold medal in the 10-meter platform competition, edging out leading Australian diver Melissa Wu. Her achievement was the first time a Malaysian athlete won a gold medal in diving. Meanwhile, in World Aquatic Championship in Shanghai 2012, she finished fourth place in 10-meter platform event. Pandelela even beat the number one squash player Datuk Nicole Ann David when she received Country’s sportswoman award in April.

The no.1 professional female squash player in the world one and only Datuk Nicole Ann David as the first Asian female to hold the titles in 2006. Nicole, is one of the sports icon that inspires many young Malaysians to accomplish the achievement that she had gain. She was amazing and has achieved many awards due to her contribution to the country involving squash until now and in the future. The reasons that I Choose Datuk Nicole as one of the successful athletes because she is one of the sports icon that inspires many young Malaysians to accomplish the achievement that she had gain. I hope that the spirits that she performs and shows to us throughout this time, will inspire all of us to achieve such accomplishment like Datuk Nicole Ann David.

Early life


Nicole David was born on August 26, 1983, in Penang, Malaysia. During school, her favourite subject in class is mathematic because she wanted to become an engineer like her father, Desmon David. She received her education in Convent Green Lane Primary and Secondary School in Pulau Pinang. Nicole academic achievement are really impressive where she got flying colours in her PMR (Penilaian Menengah Rendah) and SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Menengah) where manage to obtain 7A’s. She was raised a Roman Catholic. She likes to travel and trying different food.

Nicole start to shows her interest in squash when she was 5 years old. In 1992 Nicole was short listed to represent her home state of Penang in Milo-Dunlop Spor National Junior Interstate Championship when she was trained at the Bukit Dumbar Squash Centre. She earn her first national title when she manage to obtain silver medal in the under 16 category.

Achievement


Datuk Nicole Ann David had numerous of achievements that she had accomplish throughout the time she play squash for our country. Here, I just include some of the highlight and brief summary achievement that she had succeed.


David was given the honour of carrying the Olympic torch for Malaysia during the build up to the Athens Olympics of 2004 and was appointed UNDP National Goodwill Ambassador for Malaysia. She had won several World Championship titles and also British Open  once in 2005 and twice in 2006. Nicol David's other notable achievements include the Asian Squash Championship, which she won with a record of eight times (in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011). She received the Order of Merit (Darjah Bakti) or D.B., becoming the first recipient of the award since its establishment in June 1975. Nicole had achieve a lot of award including when she was honoured with the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Award (DSPN) that got her the title ‘Datuk’ due to her outstanding achievement. She was recognized as the youngest person ever to have the tittle Datuk in Penang. From 2005 to 2010, Nicol David received the title of WISPA Player of the Year, six times in a row. She has won the World Open Championship consecutively five times from 2008 –2012 and the Asian Squash for a record eight times between 1998 and 2011.

He is the number one Malaysia’s badminton player and most famous athletes. Datuk Lee Chong Wei known for his friendly attitude and been describes as the national hero due to his several achievement in badminton arena and was given the titles of ‘Datuk’ by Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak. He is very competitive in every game he play. He even manage to defeat Worlds badminton champions, Lin Dan from China. Datuk’ Lee Chong Wei Continues to act as a source of inspiration for new future Malaysian athletes wanting to make a name on the world stage. 

Early Life


Lee Chong Wei was born in Bangan Serai, Perak in October 21, 1986. In primary school he went to Jit Sin Primary School and continue his study at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sungai Way. First sport that he interested in is actually basketball. However, when he was only at the age of 11 years old, Datuk Lee Chong Wei started to get his interest in playing badminton when he follow his father to the badminton court. Starting from there, local coach started to notice Datuk Lee Chong Wei ability in playing badminton and took him to be trained after the local coach ask for his father permission beforehand. After he got the permission, he started to train Lee Chong Wei after the school time. Datuk Lee Chong Wei start his badminton training skill school.



Later then when Datuk Lee Chong Wei 17 years old, he met Misbun Sidek as his Mentor and joined the national team. During his debuted in the national team, he manage to grab two victory in Malaysia Open and China Taipe Open. It was a good starter for him. 



Achievement


Throughout the time Datuk Lee Chong Wei manage to attain many achievement and award. Here are some of the achievement and award that Datuk Lee Chong Wei had accomplished so far.

In 2005, Datuk Lee Chong Wei manage to beat his rival, Lin Dan in 2005 Malaysia Open final. He won the season-ending Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super Series Masters Finals men's singles title four times (2008-2010, 2013), and the prestigious All England Open three times (2010, 2011, 2014). Lee has topped the badminton world rankings for almost 300 weeks, and is a four-time winner of the BWF Player of the Year award (2009-2011, 2013).He is also Malaysia's most successful athlete at the Olympics, with two silver medals in the men's singles event (2008, 2012). In 2010, Datuk Lee Chong Wei had won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games and silver medal in Asia Games. Later that year, he grab his victory for the third time in a row in All England Open 2011. He beat the record of maximum number of home titles held by Wong Peng Soon when won the ninth Malaysian Open title in 2013. Meanwhile in 2015, Datuk Lee Chong Wei won the US, Canada and French Open.

Athletes is a person that are trained to compete in sports involving physical strength, speed, or endurance. When we talked about Malaysian Athletes they will be several athletes’ names that are very well known for their achievement base on their types of sports that they play will pop out in our mind ranging from badminton to squash and swimmer. Defending champions, striving achievers, and rising stars, this blog shares some of the top Malaysian athletes’ background, achievement and what they have accomplished so far.
